Symposium on Stratospheric Ozone and Climate Change |
Washington, DC, USA |
Nov. 7 - 11, 2011 |
iCACGP is proud to be an international co-sponsor for the IYC 2011 Symposium on Stratospheric Ozone and Climate Change, Nov. 7-11, 2011, in Washington, DC. The symposium will recognize the contributions of scientists, industry, policy makers and intergovernmental agencies to characterize and counteract the threat that industrially produced halocarbons posed to the Earth's protective stratospheric ozone layer. Addressing this threat greatly invigorated and expanded the field of atmospheric chemistry and, after early challenges, led to highly successful collaborations among academic, industrial and government scientists to understand stratospheric and tropospheric chemistry and dynamics, capture the knowledge in diagnostic and predictive models, and provide the policy relevant science that allowed the successful implementation of the 1987 Montreal Protocol and its amendments to ban ozone depletion substances.
Visit the symposium web page http://www.2011-iyc-o3.org/ for details on registration, abstract submission, travel support for young scientists, accommodations, and conference venue.

Remote Sensing of Trace Gases and Aerosols: Air Quality Applications Atmospheric Sciences session (proposal) at AGU Fall meeting sponsored by ICACGP |

Description of the session: Remote sensing of trace gases and aerosols has become increasingly accurate and useful, but challenges still remain in applying those observations to studies of air pollution close to the earth surface. As a joint AGU and ICACGP project, we invite contributions involving the application of satellite measurements to air quality studies. The session will focus on remote sensing of pollution in coordination with in-situ aircraft and ground-based observations and atmospheric chemistry model simulations during field campaigns. Topics of interest include emissions, transport, and transformations; satellite retrievals and products; and the design of future satellites focusing on air pollutants and climate-forcing agents.
